4 reviews collected from current residents and alumni.- University of Portland BSN-DNP Program Pros Had holistic aspects to program Mostly online with weekend immersions Cons Minimal help with clinical sites Heavy focus on DNP project prep and less on prep for certification Mentality of school above everything even family - Alum
- some questions didn't apply I was already a certified adult nurse practitioner. the program was only to obtain the DNP degree, did not include any clinical hours. I was already working as a nurse practitioner as well. That is why I coded two questions so low. - Alum
- A mixed bag The curriculum was a good preparation for the certification test. Otherwise, there were a lot of bumps and difficulties in the program, especially with communication between faculty and students. - Alum
- way too much emphasis on theoretical nursing When I did this program, there was no focus on passing certification exams. None. There was a huge emphasis on the theoretical framework of nursing, which in my career, was a complete waste of time. It's been a while since I graduated from UP so things may have changed, but I felt completely unprepared to practice as an NP coming out of that program. What I learned, I learned in practice from other providers and from making good and poor decisions. I hope the program has improved since I left. - Alum
