- Preceptor and College experience Finding a preceptorship for my NP program was one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my academic journey. Initially, I assumed that my school would provide direct placements, but I quickly realized that securing a preceptor was largely my responsibility. I started by reaching out to my professors and classmates for recommendations. While some had connections, many were in the same situation—searching for available preceptors. I expanded my search by calling local clinics, urgent care centers, and hospitals, often leaving voicemails or sending emails that went unanswered. It was discouraging at times, but I remained persistent. Finally, after weeks of networking and follow-ups, I secured a preceptor through a professional association. It required flexibility on my end—traveling further than I had planned and adjusting my work schedule—but the experience was invaluable. My preceptor was knowledgeable, supportive, and helped me gain the confidence I needed. - Alum
- Great program I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Madonna University. I feel the program prepared me well for the NP workforce. You do have to find preceptors on your own, which was challenging for me personally. But, the school did offer a list of preceptors used in the past as a form of support. I would recommend attending Madonna University! - Alum
- Expensive for what we got Most classes/teachers were really good, some not so good. I didn’t like having to find my own preceptor because a lot of people struggled finding them causing an added stress. - Alum
- Too many papers to write. This program was heavy in writing papers and responding to peers’ written work. The academic classes were great. It just seemed like there were too many “filler” requirements that did not aid in the clinical preparation of the NP. This does not include the religious requirements that I expected and valued. - Alum
- Dual MSN program. AGACNP/FNP program Overall, I felt very supported with my experience. I strongly feel that the faculty wanted me to succeed. The acute side prepared me with strong SIM experiences, and the FNP side provided me with great faculty especially for peds. Overall, a great program at a brick-and-mortar University that allowed me to complete a dual masters in 4 years as part time which allowed me to work and maintain work life balance. For reference I had 20 years of nursing experience at completion and I believe that as well as the faculty and curriculum prepared me for boards and employment. - Alum
