- Penn State can be challenging Penn State offers the student no assistance on finding clinical placements. It is entirely up to the student. As a result, my placement was a 2 hour drive from my home, putting me in the position of 4 hours of commute time every day. Another challenge was having to go on site to a classroom to view the class online, when this could have been done from home. The classroom was an hour each way for me to get to, and there was no forgiveness for not being prompt. My third issue was how many times I received emails from the dean stating they were renouncing things, such as conservative speakers on free speech, or Supreme Court decisions on using race as admissions criteria. Their political bias was made very clear, but in an unusual way. While they never renounced rappers with vile and misogynistic lyrics, they did renounce free speech presentations, stating they would offer the option of "unity building" presentations instead. How do you build unity when you are renouncing groups? - Alum
- Exceptional Program Thinking back on it, this was an amazing program that was flexible, thorough, and supportive throughout. I highly recommend. - Alum
- Great program Professor care! Clinical is very robust and a great experience. The program included rural health medicine and working in an extensive healthcare system - Alum
- Need clinical experience as NP student I had to find and negotiate with my own preceptors. I hear a lot of online programs graduate NP’s without ever having any in person rotations. I strongly oppose this trend as those clinicians are poorly prepared to function as an NP upon graduation. - Alum
- NP Program I found the program to fit well and allowed me to continue to work part time. It prepared me well to work in critical care. However, no matter what, you will only get out of any program, what you put into it. I also liked that they found preceptors for me. So that stress was lessened. However, I graduated in 2016 so it has been some time and I am sure some things have likely changed since then. - Alum
