23 reviews collected from current residents and alumni.- Incredibly valuable Duke education program. Duke was an amazing experience. The program was organized and easy to navigate expectations. The program found me all of my preceptors at no cost. When I requested a preceptor with more children I had it in 24 hours. - Alum
- Not for the faint You have to be completely independent and know what you want before you apply. You must be resourceful and strategic to get what you need. Duke provided no real guidance or support. I went through the rigorous application and interview, and I was selected on my own merit. I had only worked as an acute care hospitalist for 8 years and held an FNP trained degree when I applied. I had no working critical care or cardiac experience prior. The program was only geared towards critical care nurses. Out of 18 students, I was 1-2 Black and with non-ICU background. I worked full-time as a nocturnist during program and clinicals. It was hell. I was discouraged several times by my director although my grades were top-notch. I worked hard. I advocated and made sure all my clinicals were in the ICU. I successfully completed the program with a 4.0. I didn't feel prepared. I applied to a pulmonary/medical ICU program after graduation, which prepared me. Best experience. 20 years now working! - Alum
- Duke was amazing Honestly, I have no complaints. It was a great program and I felt well prepared. I had an outstanding mentor who I kept in touch with for 20 years. - Alum
- Excellent Program I attended before the majority of classes were online and I felt that was a better learning experience for me. Level of teaching was good. I did not have to find a preceptor. My focus was oncology and I was able to get a breadth of experience from clinical experience. I was able to work and complete my degree and they accepted all my credits from my MPH so that I only had to focus on the clinical courses. - Alum
- I highly recommend I had lots of help finding preceptors and the process was overall very smooth. I took classes online while I worked full time. But my labs and clinical were in person and that helped with the whole experience. The only reason I didn’t find a job immediately is because I was trying to stay at the VA and they didn’t have any NP openings. After about 6 months I left. - Alum
