- Prepared Well UA College of Nursing prepared me for the role of PMHNP to be a critical thinker & holistic provider. Psychopharmacology was taught by distinguished faculty from the UA College of Pharmacy & preceptorship was arranged by the College. I developed lifelong friendships & supportive connections which continue to flourish. - Alum
- Overall good experience I went through the program during the peak of COVID which likely contributed to some of the challenges. Many of the professors were wonderful and I learned a great deal. I wish there had been more guidance on how to navigate negotiations and more hands on learning experiences. Being online made it good for flexibility but more challenging for those who benefit from being challenged in a hands on environment. My biggest advice, find people during the first week you are together in person & use them as support throughout the program, even if you live in different states. - Alum
- Good Experience The faculty are largely passionate about their work. Like many programs, this program felt very self-directed with the hybrid format. I was always able to get help when needed from faculty. My largest complaint is that they do not provide much assistance finding clinical placements, which is an added stressor. Overall, I felt well prepared to pass my certification exam and for my first job as an NP. I would still choose this program if I had to do it again. - Alum
- I felt well prepared I do recommend the University of Arizona as I felt well prepared after graduating from my DNP PMHNP program. The doctoral project was a challenge but I think that’s more related to my specific DNP chair and not a reflection of the school overall. I worked full-time up until the final semester when my preceptorship required full-time investment. It was rigorous though, especially with clinicals, OSCEs, RISE requirements and additional program demands. The instructors were fantastic. I can’t really speak to clinical placement as I already had providers lined up before beginning and I also got hired on with that same practice after I completed school, so I’m not aware of how the school helps align students with careers. My school did have a list of preceptors to choose from that were local, so students that live in Arizona had some support. It’s an expensive program, but I’m grateful that I achieved my DNP. - Alum
- More Clinical Emphasis Needed Attended the first year this Psych/Mental Health NP program was offered and therefore the program was not fully developed. Academic program was excellent and some clinical instructors were excellent. There were no resources for clinical placements or preceptors. The certification exam was required several years later. It repaired me for my journey to be a life long learner in this field. - Alum
