- Good program Program was great other then finding preceptors but they pay now so hopefully that helps change it. - Alum
- Arrogant and rude department chair and professors I came into the program with a doctorate. I came in as a postmaster certificate. The apartment share was very rude and arrogant from day one. Some of the professors were extremely rude. One that comes to mind in particular, would recommend students for asking questions particularly if it's something she had mentioned before but they didn't understand. She would make it very clear that she'd already answered that question. She would allude to the fact that they were not paying attention. This wasn't the case. I wish I could recall her name but I couldn't but she taught the therapy portion of the psychiatric nurse practitioner program in the year 2020. I am now a full professor at another University and based on my experience I would never want to work for this institution. The problem was pervasive and not just one individual. - Alum
- Needed more practical education Too much time spent on the counseling aspect and the theory of nursing. The history of nursing is something I've studied for 4 years prior to this program, and I question the practicality of writing papers on Florence Nightingale in master's level program. - Alum
- Program needs revamping No clinical placement help. Missing key points of education - no suturing, I&D or clinical procedures training. Lack of radiology training. Relies on students finding good preceptors for good experiences and learning - Alum
- Could be better Initially I thought this program was a great fit. We had in person classes and instructors were available for discussion if needed. The program went to online after the first semester and the program went downhill after this. Lessons were either the instructor reading the slides of a power point to us or prerecorded readings. It was not a live instructor talking to the class where we could ask questions as needed after the initial changeover to online. We began to have to read and teach ourselves the material. There was not a dedicated pharmacology class for PMHNP students. We were put in with FNP students and barely hit on psychotropic medications. I was not prepared for the board exam. I have gotten feedback from employers that D'Youville is not doing a great job with their PMHNP students. - Alum
