5 reviews collected from current residents and alumni.- It's an NP school Good luck. Just take the Fitzgerald course at the end so you can pass the boards - Alum
- Good program Decent program. No assistance with getting preceptors which proved to be a great hindrance and stressor. Most lecturers were great. Good protestations for the catfish exam and for career as a FNP. Overall, I don't regret my choice to go there. - Alum
- Tailored to my needs. Very caring instructors I was fortunate to be in a NYC subsidized program. I worked 2 days per week and was paid full time. All preceptor ship needs were provided by the program. Was well prepared for my role as a new NP and passed my certification exam at the first attempt. - Alum
- Positive experience at downstate Although I went to school during the pandemic, downstate has tried to make it as normal as possible. I would definitely say that the program was worth it and had plenty of support. - Alum
- SUNY Downstate Review I went here over 10 years ago so grain of salt/maybe it's changed but I was a bit disappointed in this program. For the education piece they basically grouped us and then assigned each group a topic to teach (so we were teaching each other as opposed to having an actual curriculum, lesson plans, etc.) They did assist with placements and finding clinical spots which I hear is a big issue with other schools (I've heard horror stories from people who could not find clinic placements or it cost them thousands of dollars to find clinical preceptors). They pointed us in the right direction to find outside board prep courses and I passed on my first time around. They did not help with job placement and a lot of the nurses that were in my graduating class did not have any intentions of actually working as a Nurse Practitioner - a lot of them were nurses at SUNY downstate hospital and were able to do the program for free through that and they would do it to get the higher pay grade as an RN. - Alum
