6 reviews collected from current residents and alumni.- Great value for the $$ SCSU was a great value for the $ I spent. I was able to learn what I needed to pass my boards on the first try as did all of my classmates. There were difficulties finding preceptorships at times, but faculty helped when they had a lead. Classes are only on Tuesdays so I was able to continue working. Guidance on final projects or theses was not very good. My classmates had multiple complaints about that but I hope they have improved it since then. Overall I can say the faculty cared. I learned a lot and it was much better than being an undergraduate nursing student. If you are in the fence, just do it! You won’t regret it! - Alum
- southern ct state no program review I did my undergrad at Southern University. I found it a very unpretentious college that accepted all types of diverse students when I sought to go back to school for my nurse practitioner degree I chose southern I thought they had valuable professors who were well educated in their areas of expertise. The one negative would be difficulty in finding clinical placement although the school did help me overall it was difficult to find a placement without an introductory letter and competing with other schools in the area, but this was several years ago and I’m not sure if the process has changed overall I would recommend Southern University as a great educational institute for pursuing your nurse practitioner degree - Alum
- Good education I had great classroom education and clinical experience at SCSU. I think it was largely due to my clinical professor. She was passionate about preparing her students for what it is like in the real world as a primary care provider. The only negative was the special project and issues with advising. - Alum
- Not as expected Completed my undergrad at SCSU and had a great experience. The FNP program was not well run, my graduation date was delayed a semester due to lack of staff. Ended up losing my first job because of it. I graduated in 2015 and still vividly remember how much turmoil I was put through. However, I did feel prepared for the AANP exam and passed without issue. - Alum
