25 reviews collected from current residents and alumni.- Bang for your buck, not bad OU is relatively inexpensive, not a bad school but I have no basis for comparison. They don't prepare you much for real life experience but most schools don't. They provide a list of possible preceptors but a lot of them don't have contracts withOU or were not accepting students so it's up to the student to start asking people early on to secure a preceptor. That was probably the most difficult part about the program. The education part was pretty much the same as all the school mills out there, nothing special. - Alum
- Good program The program was a good program for the cost. They do not help you find preceptor placement which was stressful. I found it difficult to work and complete the program due to preceptor hours. - Alum
- FNP program This program prepared me well to pass my certification exam. - Alum
- Underwhelming program I was attending Ohio University's online FNP program during the height of COVID, so there was no in-person intensives. While I do believe this would have helped many student be more prepared, I feel like the entire online format for these types of programs underprepares students for working as a nurse practitioner. Luckily I worked in a large hospital system that made finding preceptors easy, but I imagine that many student had issues finding appropriate placements because no/minimal assistance was provided by OU. I also feel like many of the professors were underwhelming in their teaching style. - Alum
- Online NP Program I lived in Gainesville, Fl when I did the online program. Since UF saturated all the clinics with their NP students, it was incredibly difficult to find local preceptors. Ohio University did not provide any assistance in this process. The program itself was very fast paced with each class lasting only 7 weeks and little classroom instruction. We did a lot of reading textbooks and other resources and writing article reviews then responding to other classmate's reviews. I would not recommend doing an NP program online. I think I would have learned more in a classroom setting, but at the time online learning was the only option for me. I'm so thankful I pursued this degree, and I love working as an NP! - Alum
