- Top Notch Training Program was intense with adequate support & guidance from university staff. MSU emphasizes integrity & accountability that seems to be rare in many NP programs these days. Cost is higher but you get what you pay for. - Alum
- Recommend MSU I graduated in 2008 so the program may have changed, But getting my Masters was the best career move I made. I did the full time path and finished in 2 years. I felt very prepared and had a great time finding local preceptors. I think going in-state and working local was a key asset for my experience and secured a job right away after school. I felt very prepared to take boards and enter the workforce. - Alum
- DNP is clinical nurse management + provider traini Secured all preceptorships for myself. This adds stress. Program was “part time” but felt like too much demand to balance with full time work. I respected my teachers as experts in the field and talented educators. - Alum
- DNP - Best decision! Great value for DNP degree. Hiqh quality instruction and professors. DNP scholarly project laborious but doable and I did work as an RN while in the program full-time. Finding preceptors was challenging (program does not assist with this other than sending out a list of past preceptors you could reach out to) but helped being plugged into my community and planning ahead. Very happy with my DNP education at MSU. - Alum
- About My Experience As an ICU nurse, I didn't know any family practice providers orwomens' health providers. Back then, the market was not overly saturated with NP students. So, I showed up at offices and requested placement and usually either got a placement or they'd direct me to another office. It was daunting but doable. The program was very academic. I had to write a dissertation-quality theses. What I really needed was nuts and bolts, down to earth instruction on what I might manage in primary care. As an experienced RN, I was able to put the pieces together once I started practicing by asking questions and reading. It is now 21 years later and though I've cut down to 3 days a week, I'm still working and love what I do. It saddens me to see people who have zero to very little nursing experience graduating as NPs. They don't even realize how unprepared they are. They lack the one important thing that will ensure success as an NP - clinical experience! - Alum
