8 reviews collected from current residents and alumni.- Vcu NP The school arranged preceptors. I was able to pick my specialty. I was able to continue working during clinical . The program met my requirements - Alum
- it worked out well for me The school will secure preceptors for you and you won't need to worry about it. I was able to continue work full time/part time (during the last year of the program). overall satisfied with what they provided - Alum
- Preceptor assignments Some of the preceptor assignments were ill-matched. I had to back out of one all together because the preceptor and I had personality clash and expectations were not clear for me. There was the "eat your young" culture that can be so prevalent in nursing programs. I was miserable most of the time. One friend transferred out. I am glad I went and graduated (Class of 2001), but the only thing that kept me at that school was my mentor and a good mental health counselor. - Alum
- Fast and furious I chose the accelerated 12 month program and it was the busiest and most stressed year of my life! But at the time I was young and single without other obligations and didn’t want to end up with extended years in graduate school (which would postpone beginning my NP career). I received the academic and emotional and career support I needed to launch what is now a 35-year NP career. - Alum
- No Regrets! Felt well prepared for starting NP practice in a pediatric primary care setting. Passed certification exam with minimal additional studying, exam prep. - Alum
