5 reviews collected from current residents and alumni.- Program could be improved I truly feel I learned more from my experience working inpatient psych as an RN than what I learned in my NP program. I had to find my own preceptors, and thank goodness I found good ones. They taught me everything I know- not my professors. Nursing schools in general need to embrace the 21st century. We don't learn anything from "nursing theory" or other filler classes like that. I paid in-state tuition so for the money spent, it was worth getting my MSN here. Wouldn't have been worth the money paying out-of-state tuition though. I also don't think they prepared us well for the role of nurse practitioner. It's a huge step going from RN to NP and I don't think they put enough emphasis on how much more time and responsibility is required out of an NP vs. staff nurse. - Alum
- JUST DON'T Seriously, this program is the worst. Stay far away. - Alum
- Paired With Preceptors and Program Online The positive aspects of this program include being paired with clinical preceptors, all clinical preceptors, except for one, were very helpful, and the program was online. The program seemed very unorganized. The heads of the psych program, at that time, were outspoken about not liking post master certificate students and this was obvious. We were told they wanted to do away with the post master certificate program. I don’t believe they were able to make this change in the program. You have to take into consideration this was almost 10 years ago. Hopefully, the program has improved with new leadership. - Alum
- Director Trouble The program director position had turnover and was poorly managed, but the rest of the program was adequate. If they have a new director, it should be much improved. - Alum
- Overall good value I worked PRN on weekends while doing clinicals and found that to be manageable while completing coursework and maintaining family life. There was no program assistance in clinical placement, which is really not acceptable, in my opinion. It's so difficult to find clinical placement, especially for psychiatric clinicals. I was able to do so, and have returned the favor, paying it forward, but programs should really assist with clinical placement. Overall I felt prepared for certification exam and feel the program was a good value. - Alum
