- Best preparation for working! The program is not only vigorous, but requires more than the minimum hours and the program obtained preceptors for me which was so appreciated. I went on to obtain my DNP at this university. To this day I am complimented on my thoroughness and notes to include from billers. I credit the program that educated me in this role so that I could improve my income and job satisfaction! - Alum
- Mixed feelings I appreciate that this program exists, is local to Alaska, and is affordable. I valued the opportunity to participate in programs specific to our community, such as the AHEC scholars program, and experience clinical placements across the state. However, I had mixed experiences with some of the instructors, in terms of the quality of, and their approach to, teaching, and am unsure if I would have been prepared for practice had I not invested countless hours studying and attending conferences on my own time. This program has great potential, not all of it realized. - Alum
- It is what it is The program was disorganized but ultimately through lots of self learning I obtained the knowledge I needed to pass the exam and move into the real world. The program offered little to no help finding preceptors. Luckily I knew people in prior cohorts that kindly shared their contacts and being a psych nurse I had a few connections. In my cohort I was the only person with any psych background so it was challenging being in a master level psych NP program and going back to basics in learning all things psych. I was at some points teaching my peers psych related topics. It was a good refresher I guess but I had hoped it would teach me new things and expand on my previous knowledge. All said and done thankfully I had amazing preceptors that really helped to educate and train me. It would have been nice as well in our last semester to have a real world talk and given education on NPI, PDMP, DEA, etc and how to apply, costs, and info on charting/documentation. - Alum
