- Great program I was pleased with my clinical sites as a whole, but had to find my own on a couple occasions. Overall, it was a great program, and prepared me for my career as an NP. - Alum
- GMU - great hydrid experience while working RN It took me 2.5 years to graduate - I started in the Spring and took classes Spring, summer, fall & spring to complete all my pre-clinical graduate courses and I was easily able to manage working full time as a RN (3 12s) while taking those classes. The 3 semesters of clinicals have to be taken in order Summer, Fall, Spring so if you don't have all your pre-recs done on time you have to wait until the following year. It's possible to complete the program in 2 years but that extra Spring semester I took at the start helped me pace myself. GMU has contracts with hundreds of clinics in the northern VA area and they provide you with a massive excel sheet but it is up to you to secure your clinical sites. GMU has free clinics throughout Northern VA and you can rotate through their free clinics for clinical hours which is great but those hours are meant more to supplement but be your full time clinicals. I didn't have trouble. - Alum
- My program was associated with GW med school great My program was associated with GWMed school I had the opportunity to broaden my knowledge and this help me to prepare for the role of nurse practitioner - Alum
- Have to independently find preceptors This is common among NP programs, but is a dismal practice. Medical schools don’t do this with their students and we should demand better clinical placements from NP schools, as well. - Alum
- George Mason in 1989 to 1991 The workload of information we were to learn was overwhelming, but this may have been typical of all NP programs. Many times, I would be at the library researching for a paper and come across an interesting article that I would have no time to read because of whatever subject I was researching. But I did learn a lot. At the time I was in the program half of the classes were in the medical school at George Washington University and those were excellent classes. I passed the Boards easily but found myself floundering in my first job. It took a year of experience to feel truly confident. - Alum
