- Great group I had a great experience at RU. Really great support from the faculty. I did have to find my own preceptors but found that when clinicians knew I was with RU it was a positive experience - Alum
- FNP preceptor review Had to find preceptors on own, could be difficult with specialty practices, such as pediatrics and women’s health. Was able to work part time as an RN while going through school. - Alum
- A challenging program Securing preceptorship assignments were challenging and I took the initiative to find locations early. Some of the classes were repetitive of undergraduate work and more classes on pharmacology and pathophysiology would have been helpful. The teacher quality was quite variable from excellent to the student is actually teacher as well as student from a practical standpoint. Completing the program allowed more opportunities which I appreciate. - Alum
- Limited support While the coursework load was as expected, completing the degree took a year longer than the program's description and I was unable to maintain full-time employment after the first year. I had to stop working part-time after the second year. There was a lack of support and communication from my advisor. Because of complications with my Capstone project that could have been reduced or avoided with proper guidance, my graduation was delayed by an entire semester. - Alum
- Preceptor/Clinical Hours I was a post master's student and already practicing as an NP. I work for the Dept. of Veteran's Affairs - they provided a scholarship so I did not have out of pocket expense. Radford University and the VA worked with me to create clinical/preceptor hours with a variety of specialty clinics - since I had been practicing in an FNP role for 10 years. The specialty clinics were a great experience and really improved my skills. I also formed strong alliances with those providers which has been helpful. My only out of pocket expense involved travel to the clinics and an overnight expenses - usually spent 1 - 2 nights and mostly used air BNB's - I was in rural Montana so had to travel to larger towns in order to do my clinicals. The survey required me to answer about prep for exam and career prep. The reality is that I didn't need either - but I do know the facility worked with and encouraged other students. - Alum
