7 reviews collected from current residents and alumni.- Surgical/suturing experience in surgery would be helpful as many opportunities exist for NPs assisting in surgery More instruction and practice in suturing would be ideal - Alum
- KU post-Masters DNP program Flexible program with good elective classes. I was also able to concurrently earn a certificate in health professions education. The completely online option was helpful in that I could listen to lectures whenever, but there was extremely heavy reliance on discussion boards. Asynchronous conversation was difficult and most instructors gave minimal to no feedback on the discussions. Loved the physiology course! The radiology and diabetes courses were practical. As a post-Masters DNP student I was able to customize my clinical experiences to enhance my current practice and/or to reinforce my elective courses (e.g., radiology and endocrinology). - Alum
- Excellent education with a focus on rural health I was not a local student to Kansas. I was fully responsible for locating and coordinating with preceptors for the required hours. This is not what the school told me when I was researching and applying to the program. The faculty and course content was excellent and I felt very prepared to enter clinical, and the workforce as an NP. - Alum
- Great program KU has its pros and cons. It is a longer program, 5 years, BUT I was able to work full time except year 4. I enjoyed my life to the fullest while in the program vs giving up my life to study. The ability to work also meant I could pay for the degree as I went, only accruing minimal debt. For me, these things outweighed a faster program. When I attended (2015-2020) you had to find your own clinical placement, which was tough but did not cost money. The school assists with this if you’re really struggling but the expectation is that you find your own preceptors. I felt the faculty cared about their students and wanted to send each of us off prepared and equipped to be both great clinicians and leaders in the field. I have a friend who has now taught at 2 other universities in the area and feels that we got the best education of the 3, which I think says a lot! No program is perfect, but KU has a good curriculum and excellent faculty. - Alum
- Program Review The program overall provided a positive impact on my nursing career. In addition to the degree, license, and certification, the program facilitated personal and professional growth as well as ample networking opportunities to advance my career. - Alum
