Ratings & Reviews §
6 reviews collected from current residents and alumni.- Good preparation The program was restructured due to feedback of preceptors. They said we needed more academic work before going to clinicals. That was a good idea. Also, the school was proactive in helping us to find preceptors. - Alum
- Graduate school I worked while going to school part time. I liked the program bc it was not all online. We spent one day in class. It was manageable. - Alum
- Great program The program has changed since I graduated in 2011 so not sure how helpful my review will be but I thought professors were excellent, treated you like an adult, understood we had lives and were willing to work with us. We had to find our own preceptors but they helped as best they could. UMSL had a higher boards pass rate then any of the other programs for way less money - Alum
- Great program 2010-2012 I left UMSL well-prepared to sit for boards. The track coordinator was very helpful with sound guidance and her own rich nursing experience. At the time, there was little help with finding preceptors which was done by myself with use of networking -- one reason I would recommend working in a hospital or the healthcare setting while in school. There were a few times I needed to take a vacation day from floor nursing in order to complete clinical hours, but I was excited to be nearing completion of the program! - Alum
- Preceptors are the Key! Preceptorship & Pharmacology were the two most important aspects of the program for me. Because it was necessary for the NP students to obtain our own Preceptors, I was fortunate to be able to quit my nursing job for 3 months to manage this process on a full time basis with NPs and physicians I already respected and had relationships with. Because I was known to them as an RN, they were generous in allowing me to manage patients on my own after a short period of close supervision. Of course they were always available for consultation. Many of the students in my class were not that fortunate and had very little hands on opportunities. I felt my program was neglectful in this aspect. I hope that’s changed from 1999. - Alum
