- 2015 FNP graduate Help finding a preceptor was more of a "good luck to you." We weren't able to use any specialty offices (peds, derm, cards, etc) or emergency rooms so the options were very limited. Our grades were based on seeing cradle to grave, which meant our grades would suffer if the scheduled appointments didn't meet these unrealistic quotas. We were graded on completing procedures that were not even being offered routinely in a family practice setting. (Suturing, etc) Faculty went through restructuring during my time at FHSU which was frustrating, chaotic, and unorganized. I ended up traveling back and forth to campus more frequently than originally planned due to program changes. FHSU was less expensive than other FNP programs. I graduated on time. "Great Value" just like the billboard said. I have had no trouble finding employment and have no regrets. I graduated 10 years ago and I hope things have improved since then. - Alum
- FHSU NP program I was very blessed to have a low student teacher ratio which allow optimal ability to visit and consult with instructors Excellent classes and Instructors All of my clinicals in the Hays area were excellent and mentored with experienced NPs - Alum
- Excellent School Fort Hays State University, by far, is the best university I attended out of the four I went to for nursing. The program was realistic for working individuals. The instructors were supportive and understanding. The class sizes and structure were small and reasonable. I would recommend this university to anyone who is considering a nursing degree. I enjoyed it so much I am now looking into it for the MBA program. - Alum
- Great experience, education and support! The FHSU BSN-DNP program was rigorous, but definitely prepared me to pass my exam and secure a position as an APRN/FNP. We had support with preceptorships when our own resources weren’t sufficient. I did commute/travel to a couple placements, hence there was some cost - but this was minimal. As far as being able to ‘work’ throughout the program - this was presented at the initial orientation/info session as difficult and not recommended. The last year was not conducive to classes and working more than PRN. Between having two ‘heavy classes’ in one semester and completing projects/preceptorships in the second - it would be incredibly difficult. Classes/schedules were well positioned. Tuition and expenses were affordable. Professors were approachable and supportive. - Alum
- Overall good experience I was well prepared for the certification exam and had some really good professors who were willing to help me when I had questions regarding my job hunt! You get lots of clinical experience in a wide variety of areas if you desire! - Alum
